Second Church has historically welcomed all and spread the Word of God to those in its neighborhood and around the world. The common interest of the members of Second is an eagerness to witness faithfully to the reconciling love of God revealed in Jesus Christ and nurtured by the Holy Spirit.

Many members of Second Church are leaders in the Zeeland community and are also active through ministry groups organized for public advocacy, construction, mentoring, and befriending. Second has recently restructured itself into 18 parishes for community development, creating another avenue for outreach. Its modern educational wing serves the community in a variety of ways, including as the site for the Zeeland Community Preschool and for Second Stop, a weekly, church-run, after-school program for elementary students.

Second Church offers two worship services every Sunday morning, a casually personal service at 8:00 and a classically liturgical service at 10:00; the latter features a choir and children's walk-out. Following this service is Second Hour, which includes Children In Worship, Bible studies for youth, and seminars for adults. On Sunday evenings, Second Church encourages time at home with family and friends. During the week there are fellowship groups for middle school and senior high youth.

"Action-oriented, liberating, missional, community-focused, caring, welcoming, and affirming," are the words used by its leadership to describe Second Church. Second Church builds on its strong heritage and tradition for excellence. Visitors will discover people eager to "live the kingdom" by worshiping God, nurturing faith, caring for people, and serving their community and world.
